Later in 1957, he graduated from the University of Engineering Technology course sponsored by the KYDOT at Russellville as an engineer. In 1966 he accepted a job with R.E. Gaddie, Inc. a paving contractor. In 1972 Scotty purchased the paving business from Mr. Gaddie and started what is now known as Scotty's Contracting & Stone, LLC.
